Is the War of Ezekiel 38-39 Happening Right Now?
The internet is exploding with claims that the current conflict in the Middle East is the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
Videos are spreading rapidly. Headlines are drawing bold conclusions. Many are declaring that the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 is unfolding before our eyes.
But there’s a serious problem. Most of these claims are not being tested against Scripture. Instead, they are driven by speculation, emotion, and viral narratives rather than careful biblical examination.
And that is exactly the kind of deception Jesus warned about when speaking of the last days.
“Watch out that no one deceives you.” (Matthew 24:4)
If we want to understand whether today’s events are connected to the war of Ezekiel 38-39, we must do what faithful believers have always done—we must return to the Word of God.
When we examine the prophecy closely, several clear signs emerge. In fact, Scripture gives us multiple conditions that must exist before the war of Ezekiel 38 can occur. If you want to examine this prophecy in greater depth, you can read our detailed verse-by-verse study of Ezekiel 38.
And when we compare those conditions to what is happening today, one conclusion becomes clear:
This is not the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
As Christians—and as those who desire to help nonbelievers understand the events of the world—we must respond with wisdom and discernment. We must also remember Jesus’ command in His Olivet Discourse regarding the last days.
Let’s look at the Bible carefully and walk through four powerful reasons why.
Test Everything Against the Word of God
The apostle John also echoed the call to spiritual discernment:
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)
What John is saying here is that we should adopt the practice of the Bereans and test the validity of everything we hear against the truth of God’s Word.
During Paul’s missionary journey to Berea after escaping Thessalonica, he discovered something remarkable. The Bereans listened carefully to everything Paul taught about Christ. Yet they did not blindly accept his words. Instead, they returned to the Scriptures and examined them daily to see whether what Paul said was true.
Their example remains powerful for believers today.
Unfortunately, many people are now running here and there chasing opinions, headlines, and viral stories rather than turning to the one true source of truth—the Bible.
Therefore, let’s do what the Bereans did. Instead of relying on speculation or the narratives of the world, let’s examine the Word of God itself to determine whether what we are witnessing in the Middle East is the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
Rather than speculate, we must carefully study Scripture and allow God’s Word to reveal why the current conflict is not the war of Ezekiel 38.
To understand how this conflict fits into biblical prophecy, it helps to first examine the larger picture of end-times prophecy in the Bible and how events like the war of Ezekiel 38-39 fit within God’s prophetic timeline.
1) Israel Must Be Living in Peace and Safety
“Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it?” (Ezekiel 38:14)
Since the launch of the Hamas attack on Israel, the dynamics of the Middle East have shifted with dramatic force. Israel has ended an era in which other nations dictated how it should defend itself.
In response to these threats, Israel has almost entirely defeated the Iranian axis of evil that surrounded it through its proxies—Hamas, Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, the Houthis, and now Iran itself.
As a result, Israel has achieved a level of security that it has rarely experienced since its rebirth as a nation in 1948.
However, the specific level of peace and safety described in the war of Ezekiel 38-39 has not yet fully materialized. The final obstacle remains the Iranian regime.
Once the threat from the Ayatollah’s regime is neutralized, Israel could enter a temporary season of peace and security. That period may very well become the moment when Gog takes notice and begins preparing the invasion described in the war of Ezekiel 38.
2) The Invasion Comes to Plunder Israel’s Wealth
“Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages[a] will say to you, ‘Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?’” (Ezekiel 38:13)
Notice carefully what this passage reveals.
Nations such as Saudi Arabia, Spain, Great Britain, and possibly the United States are described as questioning the motives of Gog and his alliance.
In other words, they will ask why this massive coalition is invading Israel.
Are they coming simply to plunder? Are they attempting to seize Israel’s wealth and valuable natural resources?
This passage reveals something very important: these nations question the invasion, but they do not intervene militarily.
There is no mention of any nation coming to Israel’s defense during the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
While there will indeed be a battle, it will not ultimately be a conventional war between competing armies. Instead, it will become a powerful supernatural confrontation between heaven and Israel’s enemies.
God Himself will intervene.
And through that intervention, the world will see the ultimate reason for the invasion and its outcome: the glory of God and the undeniable revelation that the God of Israel is real.
3) The Leader of the War of Ezekiel 38-39
“I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.” (Ezekiel 38:4-6)
Ezekiel reveals something critical about the war of Ezekiel 38.
God Himself declares that He will place a “hook in the jaw” of the leader of this coalition and draw him into battle.
This indicates divine intervention. God will sovereignly direct the leader of Russia to lead a massive military coalition against Israel.
Most likely, this will take the form of a large-scale ground invasion. Such an invasion would target Israel’s greatest military vulnerability—an overwhelming ground assault by surrounding nations.
According to Ezekiel, this coalition will include nations corresponding to modern-day Turkey, Iran, Libya, and the regions of Sudan and Ethiopia.
This alliance forms the core military force of the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
Yet at this moment, we are not seeing such a coalition mobilizing to invade Israel.
Why the Current War Is Not the War of Ezekiel 38-39
When we compare the current conflict with the prophecy in Ezekiel, it becomes clear that the key conditions for the war of Ezekiel 38-39 have not yet occurred.
Let’s briefly summarize.
- First, Israel is experiencing an unprecedented level of military strength and security. However, the root problem—the Iranian regime—has not yet been completely removed. Once that threat is temporarily resolved, Israel may finally enter the season of peace and security described in the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
- Second, the nations mentioned in Ezekiel are not questioning an invasion for the purpose of plundering Israel’s resources. At the present moment, there is no attempt to seize Israel’s wealth or natural energy reserves. There is not ground invasion by any nation.
- Third, Israel has a powerful ally in the U.S.. Ezekiel mentions nothing around a nation coming to its aid. A severing of ties between U.S. and Israel could be a matter of only a few years away when the current administration is replaced similar to one prior to the current U.S. President.
- Fourth, The leader of Russia is not currently bringing a coalition of nations to invade the land of Israel. While Russia may be watching carefully, the military alliance described in Scripture has not yet mobilized. The same can be said for the president of Turkey.
How the Current War May Prepare the Way for the War of Ezekiel 38-39
While the current conflict is not the war of Ezekiel 38, it may very well help set the stage for it.
In many ways, the coalition described by Ezekiel is already taking shape.
Russia, Turkey, and Iran have been developing closer agreements for years, and their partnership has continued to strengthen. At the same time, Russia and Turkey have expanded their military relationships with northern African nations such as Libya and Sudan.
In other words, the groundwork for the war of Ezekiel 38-39 has already been laid. The world may be approaching the moment when God places the prophetic “hook in the jaw” that draws this alliance toward Israel.
Furthermore, Iran’s temporary defeat could push the nation to depend more heavily on stronger military partners. If that happens, Iran may increasingly lean on nuclear powers such as Russia and Turkey in pursuit of its long-standing objective—the destruction of Israel.
This currently developing alliance is quickly becoming the coalition described in the war of Ezekiel 38-39.
Nothing Is Falling Apart—Everything Is Falling Into Place
Friends, nothing is falling apart. Everything is falling into place. God is not a random God. He is a God of order, purpose, and promise. Every word He has spoken will come to pass.
No human power can stop it. Nothing surprises the God of creation. Everything unfolds under His sovereign control. We may not have all the answers, but we should be constantly strengthening our intimate relationship with the One who does.
As the apostle Paul declared:
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:33-36)
The nations may rage, alliances may shift, and headlines may change overnight. Yet above it all stands the unchanging God of Scripture, guiding history toward the very future He declared long ago.
So do not anchor your faith in the speculation of this world. Anchor it in the Word of God.
Because when the dust of history settles and every prophecy reaches its appointed moment, one truth will stand above them all:
God was in control the entire time.

A Prophecy the World Is Watching
The nations described in the war of Ezekiel 38-39 are aligning in ways that were unimaginable just decades ago.
Russia, Iran, Turkey, and the surrounding regions continue moving closer together on the global stage.
At the same time, Israel is becoming stronger, wealthier, and more secure.
These developments are not random.
They are pieces of a prophetic puzzle that the Bible described thousands of years ago.
But the most important truth to remember is this: God is in control of history.
Every event is moving toward the fulfillment of His plan.
And when the day finally comes for the war of Ezekiel 38, the world will witness something undeniable—the power and glory of the God of Israel.

Return to the One Source of Truth
Friends, in moments like these, when the world feels uncertain and information spreads faster than wisdom, it becomes very easy to chase headlines, predictions, and the endless opinions circulating online. Every day a new voice claims to know exactly what is happening in the Middle East or how every event fits into biblical prophecy. Yet Scripture calls us to something far better than speculation.
God has not asked His people to follow the noise of the world. He has called us to follow His Word.
The Bible is not merely a book of ancient writings—it is the living revelation of the God who sees the end from the beginning. Long before the nations of today even existed, the Lord revealed through His prophets how history would unfold. Nothing happening in our world today surprises Him. Nothing is outside His sovereign plan.
This is why believers must return again and again to Scripture. The headlines may change every day, but the Word of God does not change.
When confusion grows, open the Bible.
When new theories appear online, test them against Scripture.
While fear spreads through the world, remember that the same God who foretold these events also holds history in His hands.
The Bereans in the book of Acts provide a powerful example for us today. They did not blindly accept what they heard, even from the apostle Paul himself. Instead, they searched the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were true. In the same way, every believer must become a student of God’s Word, measuring every claim and every interpretation against the truth He has already revealed.
Prophecy was never meant to drive us toward fear or speculation. It was meant to draw us closer to the heart of God. Each prophecy reminds us that the Lord is faithful, that His promises stand firm, and that history is moving exactly where He said it would.
So rather than chasing the voices of this world, let us return to the quiet place where God speaks most clearly—His Word.
Open it.
Study it.
Test everything against it.
Because in a world filled with growing deception, the Word of God remains the one voice that will never lead you astray.
And when we anchor ourselves there, we can watch world events unfold—not with panic or confusion—but with confidence in the God who rules over all nations and all of history.
