A Warning for the Last Days in a Godless World

Jesus never once used the term “godless world” in any of His recorded teachings. In fact, this phrase doesn’t appear anywhere in Scripture.
But Jesus did paint an exquisitely detailed picture of the godless world we would see in the last days.
These are the very characteristics He warned us about — the framework of the godless society we are now witnessing unfold before our eyes.
The Traits of a Godless World
- There will be great deception, especially spiritual deception—and many will be deceived.
- There will be wars and rumors of wars.
- People will turn away from their faith, push God out of society, and hate one another.
- Evil and wickedness will increase significantly.
- Love for one another will grow cold.
- Followers of Christ will be persecuted—leading even to death now and leading into the Tribulation.
- The Jewish people and the nation of Israel will become a burdensome stone for all nations.
“And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.” (Zechariah 12:3)
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed… Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:6, 12)
Jesus laid out this framework in His Olivet Discourse — one of His final teachings before the Cross — describing exactly what the end of the present age would look like.
How the Godless World Destroys Our Homes
But Jesus didn’t stop there.
He also revealed how the nature of a godless society would seep into the most sacred part of His creation: our families.
From the beginning, God created man and woman — and blessed the union of marriage to build strong families under His divine order. Yet, every aspect of that foundation is now under direct attack:
- Man and woman — attacked through gender confusion.
- Marriage — redefined and corrupted by culture.
- Family — weakened by rebellion and spiritual blindness.
Each of these areas has been assaulted by Satan for decades, all to pull people away from God and the things that bear His image.
Thus, we see the construction of a godless society — one designed by the evil one himself, the serpent, the dragon, Satan.
The Final Assault: Our Children
There’s one more sacred area now under siege: our children.
Children were created to be a heritage and blessing from God. But as we near the final moments before the rapture, Tribulation period, and Christ’s return, Satan has intensified his attack. He is using schools, governments, and media to push godless values onto the youngest and most impressionable minds. These institutions he already controls.
He knows his time is short. The restraint is lifting. The flood of godless ideology is pouring in faster than ever.
“The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
So we must ask: after pushing God out of our society, out of our schools, and now out of our families — what did we expect a godless society to look like?
Jesus Already Told Us
Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus described it perfectly. His Word is being fulfilled with astonishing accuracy.
The world that will exist after the Rapture — the one left behind — will enter the darkest chapter in human history.
“For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.
If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” (Matthew 24:21–22)
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1)
“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28)
The book of Revelation describes these events that will occur in detail.
The coming Tribulation won’t be a sudden flip of a switch from peace to chaos.
It will be the culmination of everything we’re witnessing right now — a progressive moral collapse preparing the world for judgment.
The Most Godless Society Yet to Come
When the Rapture occurs, every believer — every vessel of the Holy Spirit — will be removed. What remains will be utter darkness. The Tribulation will mark the height of a truly godless world.
This is not just a prophecy; it’s a warning.
The days leading up to that moment are exactly as Jesus described — and we are living in them now. He reminded us that we would have to endure these days of godless events.
“Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.” (Revelation 3:10)
Even as evil grows around us, Jesus promises deliverance to His faithful — through the Rapture, not through enduring His wrath.
A Sword Through the Family: A Painful Reality
The godless society doesn’t just divide nations; it divides homes.
Jesus warned that faith in Him would bring division even into the family circle.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I have come to turn a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.” (Matthew 10:34–36)
These words strike deep. Many of you reading this are living this nightmarish and painful reality. You’ve been rejected, mocked, or even cut off by loved ones because of your faith in Christ.
Jesus wasn’t saying He wants to divide families, but that the truth of the Gospel (the story of salvation and the kingdom of God) would naturally divide those who accept it from those who reject it.
The Word of God is like a sword — cutting through darkness and exposing hearts.
Why Don’t We Trust Him?
So why do we still turn to the world’s philosophies instead of the Word of God?
Why do we seek answers from those who deny the very Creator who holds eternity in His hands?
Why do we repeatedly turn to the words of mankind? Why don’t we turn and listen to God’s Word? One book (Bible) has never been wrong through all it’s prophecy.
On the other hand, we could fill a museum with volumes of books of philosophers and the likes of failed predictions on the direction of humanity and society.
God’s Word has never failed. Every prophecy has been fulfilled or is being fulfilled before our eyes.
Meanwhile, the world’s so-called “wisdom” changes with the wind — built on sin, pride, and rebellion.
The Root Cause: Sin
This isn’t happening because we’ve failed to protect the planet or because of politics or social policies.
It’s happening because of one thing: sin.
Humanity chose to cast God aside in favor of its own desires.
Sin has consequences — and the godless world we now see is the direct result.
But there’s still a way back.
God offers redemption and salvation to all who repent and turn to Him through Jesus Christ.
So we return to the question:
What did you expect a godless society to look like?
The truth is — it looks exactly like what Jesus said it would.
Next time we ask ourselves, “what in the world is going on?” we have our answer.
Closing Reflection: A World Without God — or a Heart Turned Toward Him
Friends, we are watching prophecy unfold in real time. The world is unraveling not because God has lost control, but because He told us it would be this way before the end. Every news headline, every act of rebellion against His truth, and every step toward a godless world confirms what Jesus declared more than two thousand years ago.
Yet, in the midst of all this, God’s mercy still calls out.
He has not abandoned us. The same Savior who warned us of what’s coming also promised to rescue those who belong to Him.
This is not the time to fear — it’s the time to stand firm in faith, to look up, for our redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28). The hour is late, but grace still knocks on the door of every heart willing to open it.
So before the last trumpet sounds, before the world enters its darkest days, let every believer renew their focus and urgency to live for Christ — boldly, faithfully, and without compromise.
The message is simple, yet eternal:
Choose Christ while there’s still time.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We see the signs all around us — the deception, the hatred, the growing coldness of hearts — and we recognize that Your Word is true. The world has turned away from You, but we will not. Strengthen our faith to stand firm in this godless society.
Guard our families, protect our children, and give us courage to shine Your light in the darkness. Remind us that You have not called us to fear but to faith, not to despair but to hope.
We long for Your appearing, Lord Jesus. As the world grows darker, let our love for You burn brighter. Keep us faithful until the trumpet sounds and You call us home.
In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, Amen.
